Project Descriptions
UP-TO-US - User-Centric Personalized IPTV UbiquitOus and SecUre Services Project Coordinator - France Telecom Partner profile: Telecom operators, and STBs manufacturers and/or broadcasters. The objective of the UP-TO-US project is to investigate, prototype, and evaluate an open European solution allowing IPTV services personalization for managed networks (IPTV services provided by the operator) upon an IMS platform, through program recommendations and content adaptation according to each user context and the context of his environments (network and devices) while preserving his privacy protection. UP-TO-US focuses on two use-cases that illustrates the importance of service personalization: users in nomadic situations in a hotel (how the user could access his personalized IPTV content in a hotel and be billed on his own bill), and users' mobility in his domestic sphere (how could the user move in his domestic sphere while continuing accessing his IPTV service personalized according to his location and devices in his proximity). In order to achieve the objective of UP-TO-US, some enabler technologies will be developed and integrated to the IPTV/IMS architecture, these mainly include: i) context-aware module capable of monitoring and gathering the user and his environment contexts and feed them in a dynamic manner to the IPTV system, ii) profiling management module, capable of constructing and continuously updating the users profiles according to the various contexts, and iii) privacy management module that will be responsible for managing the different privacy levels for each user and protecting the user personal information. MEVICO - Mobile Networks Evolution for Individual Communications Experience Project Coordinator: Nokia Siemens Networks The research project proposal in Celtic Call7 is on research of the network aspects of the 3GPP LTE-mobile broadband network for its evolution in the mid-term in 2011-2014. The goal is to contribute to the technical drive and leadership of the EPC network (3GPP), and thus support the European industry to maintain and extend its strong technical and market position in the mobile networks market. The results can be used as contributions for further development of the 3GPP standard on EPC in Rel11-Rel13. . The technical research areas of the project will cover relevant topics in the areas of network architecture, mobility & routing, packet transport, traffic management, network engineering and techno-economic aspects. The project will include both conceptual research and demo/trial system implementations.
CRUMBS Crumbs, Places and Augmented reality in Social Networks Project Coordinator: Telefonica I+D "Follow the crumbs to re-build your mobile social world". This slogan highlights the CRUMBS platform concept as a new way of organising information in a social network based on users interacting with their physical environments while wandering around. This idea means that users will consume rich multimedia social content "stuck" in different places by using their mobile phone as a mixer between the real world, captured by the mobile camera, and the (crumbs) social content provided by CRUMBS users. The key elements of this project are a Mobile Geo-Spatial Social Network; an underlying Semantic Platform (MOSS Celtic Project) - to provide added value information through the CRUMBS services; and an Augmented Reality Engine. The first element will provide a set of different innovative Location-Based Social services that will make the most of the second element, the underlying Knowledge layer (MOSS Celtic Project). Moreover, the entire geo-spatial social world of the users will be shown as rich multimedia objects floating in their mobiles overlapped with the real world captured by their mobile cameras. This will be made possible by using cutting-edge technology such as Augmented Reality and high-end mobile terminals. These new kinds of services will enable new types of scenarios to develop where interesting social content, "crumbs", is displayed to users in a non-intrusive fashion and intelligent way while they walk around. At the same time, they will be able to produce content everywhere leaving crumbs (traces) of their social activity. Therefore, the CRUMBS platform will definitely have a big impact on eBusiness, eTourism and eGovernment scenarios where new and innovative mobile services might occur, thus leading to different relationships either between users or between users and entities. In order to demonstrate the CRUMBS concept, the platform will be tested in a real scenario, such as an institution (i.e. a council) and it will provide personalised services for this context. Relevant feedback will be taken back from this experience and will be used to shape the services and transform them into a real product. It is envisaged that the final product will be launched on the market.
