The Austrian Private Equity and Venture Capital Organisation is the national association for Austria's private equity industry. AVCO encompasses private equity houses – from venture capital and expansion financing to buy-outs – as well as associated institutions and companies, which are interested in developing the private equity and venture capital industry in Austria.

Celtic is a EUREKA cluster and the only European R&D programme in ICT fully dedicated to end-to-end telecommunication solutions. Celtic initiates and runs jointly private and public funded ICT/ telecommunications R&D projects. It is supported by most of the major European players in communication technologies. Celtic projects are focusing at telecoms networks, applications, and services looking at a complete end-to-end system approach. The overall size of the Celtic budget is in the range of 1 billion euro. Celtic projects are open to any kind of company and organisation from all EUREKA countries.

iSOCO - Intelligent Software Components S.A. is a privately held company founded in 1999 as a spin-off of the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Research Institute. iSOCO is the leading Spanish company in Semantic Web Technologies, evidenced by its participation in a dozen large, ambitious (international) R&D projects in this area. iSOCO commercializes several products: GETsee: a content aggregator for financial online information; Quotes: a powerful e-sourcing solution for conducting online negotiations between a buying company and its suppliers; and e-Invoicing, an innovative solution to exchange and manage electronic invoices between enterprises. iSOCO has also started to commercialize results of other EU projects, in particular the KnowledgeParser software that turns non-structured information into structured information.

The objective of the Austrian Computer Society (OCG) is the comprehensive and interdisciplinary promotion of information processing, with due regard to its effects on man and society. To achieve the OCG undertakes the following:
- It serves as the focal point of associations, organisations, and institutions in Austria involved in information processing (institutional members).
- It represents Austria in the IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) and in other associations, e.g. CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies) and IMIA (International Medical Informatics Association).
- It is affiliate member of ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) and of the IEEE Computer Society.
- It provides services, information and consultation for its members.
- It promotes research and development projects, especially those of an interdisciplinary nature.
- It has established several Working Groups dealing with specialized aspects in the field of information technology.
- It organizes international conferences and congresses and supports its member institutions in organizing such events.
Today the OCG has more than 1600 individual members and more than 100 supporting and institutional members. We provide our members with monthly mailings including information about national and international events such as conferences and congresses and our magazine "OCG Journal", which is published at least five times a year (in German).

The University of Sheffield has been described by The Times as one of the powerhouses of British higher education. The University is a member of the Russell Group, the twenty universities who receive two-thirds of universities' research grant and contract funding in the United Kingdom. It is a major contributor to research, being the sixth most highly rated research university in the UK. In the latest round of Teaching Quality Assessments (TQA 1993-2001) Sheffield ranked third in the UK for the highest number of "Excellent" rated subject areas. Nearly 75% of all teaching subjects achieved a 24/24 (Excellent) score. The University of Sheffield is participating with two groups in STI: The Natural Language Processing Group in the Department of Computer Science, and the Information Retrieval Group in the Department of Information Studies. The two groups form one of the largest language technology and information science clusters in the UK with approximately 70 researchers, including six full professors, two readers, one senior lecturer and two lecturers.
