NeOn project started in March 2006 and has a duration of 4 years. The aim of NeOn is to create the first ever service-oriented, open infrastructure, and associated methodology, to support the development life-cycle of such a new generation of semantic applications, with the overall goal of extending the state of the art with economically viable solutions. These applications will rely on a network of contextualized ontologies, exhibiting local but not necessarily global consistency.

X-Media addresses the issue of knowledge management in complex distributed environments. It will study, develop and implement large scale methodologies and techniques for knowledge management able to support sharing and reuse of knowledge that is distributed in different media (images, documents and data) and repositories (data bases, knowledge bases, document repositories, etc.). The project started in March 2006 and will last for 4 years. It has a budget topping Euro 13.6M, (9.9M from the EU). 15 partners are involved from UK, Germany, Italy, France, Slovenia, Greece and Norway.

GOLD SPONSORS
Europe is in transition to a knowledge economy. Effective knowledge management is fundamental to successful economic activity, yet enterprises find it hard to transform much of their essential knowledge into transferable, easily accessible, and actionable knowledge assets. Such hidden knowledge is typically held by individual knowledge workers, being either tacit (unarticulated) or explicit but not widely available (e.g. emails, personal desktop files). ACTIVE aims to increase the productivity of knowledge workers in a pro-active, contextualised, yet easy and unobtrusive way. ACTIVE will integrate concepts, methods and tools from the fields of (i) Social Software and Web 2.0, (ii) Semantic Technologies, (iii) Context Mining, Context Modelling, and Context Sensitive Task Management, and (iv) Knowledge Process Mining, Knowledge Process Modelling and Pro-Active Knowledge Process Support into highly innovative application systems. The key result of ACTIVE will be a breakthrough which empowers enterprises to make knowledge technology effective for a much larger share of their essential knowledge. ACTIVE will generate sustainable impact by deploying the tools and applications in three industry sectors: consulting, telecommunication and engineering ("ACTIVE technology").

SOA4All will help to realize a world where billions of parties are exposing and consuming services via advanced Web technology. We will provide a comprehensive framework and infrastructure that integrates four complimentary and revolutionary technical advances into a coherent and domain independent service delivery platform:
- Web principles and technology as the underlying infrastructure for the integration of services at a world wide scale.
- Web 2.0 as a means to structure human-machine cooperation in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Semantic Web technology as a means to abstract from syntax to semantics as required for meaningful service discovery.
- Context management as a way to process in a machine understandable way user needs that facilitates the customization of existing services for the needs of users.

SILVER SPONSORS
Franz Inc. was founded in early 1984 as a vehicle to produce and sell Macsyma. While that never developed into a business, Franz Inc. did sell Franz Lisp while working on their own Common Lisp implementation. Franz Lisp died out in the 80s as Common Lisp became more popular. Today, they sell Allegro Common Lisp, which is a direct descendant of the Common Lisp they developed in the mid-80s, and a series of products like AllegroCache built on it.
In late 2004, Franz began a development program focused on delivering scalable RDF database technologies for the Semantic Web, also known as Web 3.0. The product, AllegroGraph, is built on many of the highly optimized technologies found in Allegro CL and AllegroCache and was a natural extension for Franz's technology stack. The release of AllegroGraph 2.2 in August 2007 has propelled Franz to a leading role as supplier of commercial, persistent and scalable RDF Graph Database products.
In addition to AllegroGraph's ability to process billions of RDF triples, AllegroGraph also supports SPARQL, Full Text Search, RDFS++, and Prolog reasoning from Java or Common Lisp applications.

The iQser Corporation is the provider of the GIN Platform, a semantic middleware for the integration of heterogeneous data sources including the internet for a semantic real-time analysis. The company focuses on highly efficient automatic processes which can adapt themselves autonomously to the current information and information needs. GIN enables real-time analyses for risk management, market research and supplier evaluations, dynamic information logistics for the rationalization and quality assurance of processes, intelligent matching for sales opportunities, problem solutions and human resources. With GIN you can significantly cut back the services of a service oriented architecture (SOA) by simplifying information retrieval. Maintenance costs are drastically reduced due to the decoupling of the services from the systems. Due to the semantic analysis, content-related connections in distributed data can be discovered and provided for the service definition.

Even after four decades of rapid advances, computing is currently subject to revolutionary changes at all levels, including hardware, middleware, network infrastructure, but more importantly intelligent applications. Emerging technologies such as the Semantic Web or Web Services transform the Internet from a network of information to a network of knowledge and services. The number of services which will be offered on the Internet is expected to rise dramatically in the next few years. It is the mission of Service Web 3.0 to address these emerging developments and contribute to the implementation of framework programmes and their projects, and support the preparation of future community research and technological development.
